Main results of our works are viewed in the book �Examination of stone in monuments. Basements, methods, case studies�. The book contains the review of general methods and receptions of stone examination. They are applied for any objects of any cities. The consideration of these methods gives in view of modern receptions of substance researches. Methods and sequence of works for the first time are characterized at the analysis biological phenomena of stone destruction. The system of drawing up maps of stone types in facades of buildings is also given for the first time in the domestic literature. There are many illustrative examples of investigation in the book. These examples are picked up for full demonstration of the majority of methods, to characterize the main types of an architectural Petersburg stone and to show receptions of a quantitative estimation of monuments before restoration. The book is based at works in connection with preparation to 300-Years Jubilee of St.-Petersburg, but in opinion of the authors, it present general interest for the restorers working on objects of any cities, for art investigators and historians of architecture. Therefore, addressing the book and them, the authors aspired maximum widely and popular, to give the results from area of exact sciences and not to use narrowly special physical, chemical, geological and biological terminology. The book is conceived very simple under the form of a statement of a material. For more profound information the reader will find the literary references to all narrowly special researches of the authors.
